When done correctly, stretching is key to staying limber and flexible. Often people don't stretch at all or only once in a while. Most people focus on a sport, cardiovascular or weight lifting exercises but they forget to stretch- until they get hurt. To benefit from a stretch program, you need to practice it regularly, ideally every day and at minimum three times a week.

As we age, our bodies loose elasticity, flexibility, and range of motion, especially in the shoulders, neck and low back which can lead to issues. On a positive note, stretching helps slow down shoulder, neck and back issues.

By learning to stretch correctly, you'll increase flexibility and range of motion. It will reduce the risk for pain and injury and improve sports performance.

Correct Stretching:

- Breath - inhale deeply, on exhalation stretch

- Hold your stretch 10-20 seconds or longer if it feels good

- Stretch from your waist - move slowly and gently and stay within your comfort zone

- Warm up before stretching

-Stretch regularly - make it part of your routine
